We've had a busy and fun first week of classes for Heisui Dojo's various programs. The Orono Youth Martial Arts program kicked off it's fall season with two robust classes of kicking and kiai-ing students. With about ten students per class we're are busy, but can still accommodate a few more students. Classes for K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade will continue this Wednesday. The Bangor High School Martial Arts Club held an organizational meeting and work-outs will begin this Tuesday immediately after school. Unlike our regular classes, the BHS MA Club practices a less traditional format that blends combat conditioning, self-defense skills and traditional martial arts. Our no-gi work outs are open to all members of the BHS community for free. Finally, I had a blast joining Holly Twining and Maine Yoga Adventures for a martial arts seminar as part of their Young Yogis Adventure on Sunday. We were graced with a beautiful day in the pastoral University of Maine arboretum and some fun, martial arts-based adventures ensued. Check out Maine Yoga Adventures page (linked in our Friends and Links section) for pictures of this adventures and Holly's other exciting trips.
As training ramps up I'm finding myself not too sore, only a little tired and completely energized by the experience of training with new students and building our budo community.
