I responded to an inquiry about summer programming the other day. Even though it's still 45 degrees and rainy I guess it's not too early to be thinking of summer adventures.
Since we run our programming through Orono Parks and Rec. we do not hold youth classes over the summer. Our current session ends in June. We will resume regular classes (with an additional intermediate/advanced class!) in September. During the months of July and August, however, we offer a few events that may be of interest:
Do you have any suggestions? Are you looking for specific kinds of programming or classes on a specific day or time? Plans are in the works, so let me know.

- Karate Fun Days: At least once a month during the summer we open the dojo and invite everyone to train together regardless of age, rank or prior affiliation. Spend a couple of hours with us on a summer afternoon for a Karate Fun Day. I always try to include something special that we don't normally get a chance to do in our classes on these days. In the past we have done an introduction to breaking and we have practiced hanbo (short staff) techniques and drills. Stay tuned to this blog, the Orono Parks and Rec. website and our Facebook page for dates and times. Our Karate Fun Days are always FREE, but pre-registration is requested.
- Private/Semi-Private training for teens and adults: For teens and adults who want to continue training throughout the summer I schedule regular private and small group classes. These are informal, individualized sessions. We often meet at the Keith Anderson Community Building, but on beautiful summer nights we might train outside by the Stillwater River. Ever see those guys doing bo kata (staff forms) at Webster Park? Yeah, that's us.
- Kids Camps: We do not (yet) offer a summer camp, but I know of at least two camps in Maine with a martial arts focus. I am not affiliated with either program, but I might know a little about opportunities around our area. If you are interested in a camp for your child, please see me.
- Training beyond Orono Community Martial Arts. I want our students to love and have fun training in martial arts. If you are looking for a martial arts program that runs formal classes over the summer so they can continue to train I can make some recommendations.
